From Russia with Love…. Golden Syrup Dessert Dumplings

I was at a dinner party and a friend of a friend whipped up these dumplings. They were so amazing I ran into the kitchen to copy down the recipe. I think he said they were Russian, or perhaps I’m confused and he’s Russian?! I hope he doesn’t mind me posting it here!

You’ll need

  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 30g butter

For the dumplings

  • 1 cup of self-raising flour
  • 60g butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2-3 tbsp of milk (or possibly a little more – see how you go)
  • 1 tsp sugar

To cook

Rub the butter and flour together for the dumplings until it is all mixed in. Add the sugar, egg and milk to it’s a good consistency to roll into little firm balls.

Bring the sauce ingredients to the boil in a good sized saucepan. Add the dumplings and simmer uncovered for 7-10 mins.

Serve with icecream
